Chemical documents, especially those involving drug informstion, comprise a variety of types - the most common being journal articles, patents and these. THey typically contain large amounts of chemical information, such as pubMed-ID, activity classed and adverse or side effects. Thchniques are used to extract information from a huge number of documents and it is presented in a useful structually prepared format that can be appplied to structured, semi-structured and structured texts. Numeruos information extraction methods and techniques have been proposed implemented. In priciple. there are twomain approuches to information extraction, the knowledge enegerering approach and the learning approaches. In this survey study, we first provide the histrocial backgroun on information extraction approaches applied to chemil docummets and discus several kinds of information extraction tasks that have emerged in recent years. Them, we discusthe metrics used for evaluating infomation extraction systems, and finally the survey outlines the main issue that will shape future reserch in this area of study
