An ad hoc network is a colletion of wireless computers (nodes), communitcating among themselves over possibly multishop paths, without the help of any infrastructure sush as base stations or acces points. Due to MANET characteristic, nodes in MANET are easily compromised by the adversaries. In this paper an innovative scheme is proposed to monitor and detect the malicuious nodes without compromising the network performances. The major contribution is to alleviate the watacdong (IDS for MANET) issues such aslimited traminsmision power, packer dropping, receiver collision and false misbehavior repeots generations. The proposed approach is an acknowledgemet based, in which each acknowledgemet pacet is digitally signed with an Elliptic Curve Cryptograpy (EEC) algorithm for authenticanting the acknoledgemet packets. Simultiots results demonstrate that the proposed scheme offer more security and improve the network performances than earlier IDS approashes. The proposed system improves the packet delivery ratio and also minimizes the routing overhead even in the presence of 40% malicious nodes in the network
